Press Freedom Index
For what seemed like a very modern, civilized and a renowned first world country, I am saddened by the fact that Singapore ranked #137 in Press Freedom – only 40 notches below North Korea.
Not that Press Freedom (or the lack of it) is not new news to fellow Singaporeans, but to be ranked way below Ghana, Togo and even Liberia is such an embarrassment!
In spite of all the tangible progression we see of a country spruced up with concrete walls consisting of vibrant shopping malls and the latest technological advancement, there certainly is no indication of human progression given the lack no respect for human rights.
This poses a question of "Would you then believe what the news have to say?"
Thailand for some reason is not listed here…I wonder why that is!
A Singaporean's chronicle of life in Bangkok journalized to keep family and friends up-to-date with the everyday on-goings. A rebel at heart and a non-conformist, she left home reckoning that it would be "good for the soul" for a year or two. It is now more than eight years living abroad and still counting! A little footloose, a little clutzy and sometimes a little cuckoo in the head, this animal-lover, a chronic movie/music buff , an avid reader and a self-proclaim foodie , does appear to be quite normal by any other standards! Now a working mother, her sanity is kept in check by a loving husband, a few close friends and her 3 furry friends. De-stressing usually means a trip to the kitchen and cooking up a few dishes but has been quite an impossible feat since the arrival of The Baby. Welcome to my life!
